English Genealogy
If you haven’t started searching for your ancestors one of our ‘Introductory packages’ would be a great first step.
If you’ve done some of your own research and hit a brick wall, or if you’ve got a particular ancestor you want to focus on then our ‘Targeted package’ might suit you best. Uncover your ancestral roots with our genealogy services
Introductory Package
Standard Package
In this package I will endeavour to use the information you provide about your parents and grandparents to rediscover your ancestors. I will research your 4 grandparents and 8 great-grandparents, aiming to provide with some details of your 2nd great-grandparents. If you don’t need me to research your grandparents you could make one of your parents the focus of the project and I will then effectively research 4 of your great-grandparents and 8 of your 2nd great-grandparents, aiming to provide you with some details of your 3rd great-grandparents.
I will conduct my research using civil records (birth, marriage and death certificates) and censuses, along with Church records, immigration documents and newspaper archives. English civil records are only available through the General Records Office (GRO) at fixed costs. I cannot guarantee that I will discover all of the ancestors I have set out to. Loss of records, children born out of wedlock and adoptions can all complicate matters. If an ancestor appears to be elusive I will contact you to see if you would like me to spend more time on them or move on. You can also specify if a particular line is of more interest.
Once I have concluded my research you will be presented with:
A PDF digital report of my findings. This will be comprised of:
Biographies of grandparents and great-grandparents
Names of 2nd great-grandparents
All documents found relating to your direct ancestors
Suggested next steps
An introduction to English genealogical resources
Digital copies of all documents relating to your ancestors (direct and any indirect ones I find)
A PDF of your family tree showing your direct ancestors
There is the option to have your report printed and spiral bound at additional cost.
Deluxe Package
This package is much the same as the standard package in terms of research but there are added features in the presentation. Once I have concluded my research you will receive:
A PDF digital report of my findings. This will be comprised of:
Your family tree showing your direct ancestors
Full biographies of grandparents and great-grandparents. Each biography will also contain:
Interactive lists of their parents and children
Interactive lists of their documentation
Short biographies of 2nd great-grandparents (as for grandparents and great-grandparents)
All documents found relating to your direct ancestors, complete with transcriptions
Suggested next steps
An introduction to English genealogical resources
Digital copies of all documents relating to your ancestors (direct and any indirect ones I find)
A printed and spiral bound copy of the report and records

Package
In this package you will specify a particular area you wish me to focus on. You might want to dig deeper following an introductory package. Perhaps you’ve been researching and gotten stuck on a particular ancestor. Maybe you’ve always wanted to know the truth behind some family oral history. Or maybe you’re interested in the ancestors of one particular grandparent. This is much less structured than the introductory package but it might be exactly what you need. We will agree on a set amount of time for me to research, this can always be extended if needed. I would suggest no less than 5 hours in order for me to adequately research and report my findings.
As with all genealogical research, I cannot guarantee that I will be able to answer your research question. Loss of records, absent fathers and adoptions can all complicate matters. If it appears that I will be unable to fulfill your request, or require more time than agreed, I will of course be in contact with you to discuss how to proceed.
Depending on your requirements I will produce a standard or deluxe report for you (as described above) and provide you with digital copies of all documentation found.
This package starts at £100 for 5 hours work with civil record purchases charged at cost. Additional work is charged at £20/h.

Rebecca B.
Rebecca asked for a Standard Introductory package for her ancestors from Leeds, London and the Midlands. There was particular interest in an adopted grandfather. I was able to provide full biographies for 4 grandparents and 7 great-grandparents, including the birth mother of her adopted grandfather. I was also able to provide the WW1 service record for two of her great-grandfathers and the names of 12 of her 2nd great-grandparents.
“I did the basic package with Dans, with a specific concentration on my paternal side. I knew very little on that side as my grandparents died when I was too young to ask questions and my dad didn’t know much either. Dans was able to uncover a lot of unexpected information about my paternal grandparents – both of them came from completely different parts of country. She was also able to discover my grandfather’s biological mother which was amazing. Dans is thorough and detailed and I would highly recommend her services.”
Claude D.
Claude needed a targeted package to try and discover what became of an ancestor who left the family in the 60’s. There was oral history to indicate the ancestor had passed and may have changed his name. I reviewed and organised all the information Claude had gathered. I was able to verify her research, provide birth records, travel documents and newspaper articles as well as reading handwritten letters.
I provided a comprehensive report with timelines, associated names and locations and potential death records to look into. Unfortunately I was unable to definitively find the ancestor in question, but Claude has a few leads to follow and it was pleasure to be able assist her in her journey.
I contacted Dans as I wanted help locating the death records of a family member. From the first call I found her to be so warm and friendly and I instantly felt comfortable to discuss things with her.
The information I had about my family member was limited, Dans wasn’t fazed by this, but was realistic about what she thought she could do to start, with the information given.
When I needed to contact Dans, she quickly responded, and she always kept me updated with what was happening. She gave me options of the things that she could do, the direction she could go in, and I liked the fact that I could do things in stages according to my budget.
I knew it was a long shot when I approached Dans, and although I have not yet found my family member, I know more about them now than I did when I first approached her.
The personalised report that I received set out the information that I had prior to working with Dans most of which she was able to confirm was correct. It also had the information that she had found so now gives me a timeline of the life of my family member when they arrived in the UK, up to the point they were last seen. I have never met them and the information that I had was sketchy so to now have it all in one place, makes it easier for me as I continue my journey to find answers, but also makes them seem more real.
Thank you so much for all of your help and expertise Dans, you have validated the research that I had done previously, given me new leads and information and reignited my desire to continue searching when I had given up.
